Lindsay Perlman
Clinical Psychologist
BScPsych(Hons) MClinPsych, MOrgPsych, MAPS

Lindsay Perlman is a patient centred Clinical Psychologist who works with a variety of population groups including young adolescents, adolescents and adults with a range of clinical psychological needs, including but not limited to depression, anxiety and interpersonal difficulties. A passion and special interest of Lindsay’s is the perinatal and postnatal depression and anxiety area where Lindsay uses a combination of evidence based psychological interventions and a strong therapeutic alliance in her treatment approach. Some therapeutic interventions that Lindsay draws upon includes Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well as the Circle of Security attachment based parenting program. As part of Lindsay’s patient centred approach, she offers a containing ‘space’ in which to think, reflect and understand.  Lindsay prides herself on working collaboratively with her patients to understand their unique presenting concerns and challenges. Lindsay’s strong belief is that with greater self-awareness, comes increased self-compassion, understanding and acceptance.

Lindsay has worked extensively with children, adolescents and adults across a number of health settings, including psychiatric hospitals, anxiety clinics and private practice. Specific to perinatal/postnatal depression and anxiety, Lindsay has worked in the Mother Baby Unit at St John of God and was also a facilitator of post-natal depression and anxiety groups and circle of security attachment based parenting programs.

Lindsay completed her Master’s thesis in the area of mother-infant attachment. Specifically, she examined the impact of early infant social withdrawal from the caregiver and its’ bearing on social, cognitive, emotional and psychological development.

Based on her research and practical experience, Lindsay believes early intervention in the attachment relationship paves the way for greater emotional, psychological, cognitive and social development for the infant.

Prior to completing her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Lindsay completed a Master’s degree in Organisational Psychology and worked in the consulting arena for ten years. For much of this time she worked at Deloitte, a global Management Consulting firm where she specialised in ‘Change Management’, assisting employees at various levels to integrate and manage change and its complexities more effectively. The role also focused on Executive Coaching and Leadership Development.
