Dr Amy McAlpine, MAPS
Clinical and Forensic Psychologist
Certified Hypnobirthing Australia Practitioner
BA Psych and Addiction Studies, BA Psych Hons, Combined Masters/PhD Clinical and Forensic Psychology

Amy has 15 years’ experience working in counselling and psychology with individuals and groups across the lifespan. Since becoming a mother herself and seeing many new mums and couples in her clinical work, she has discovered a passion for working within the perinatal space to promote parent and infant mental health during this significant developmental phase of one’s life. She has supported parents during their fertility journey, processing grief from pregnancy loss, birth trauma, and antenatal and postnatal mood and coping concerns.

Amy is trained in trauma-focussed therapy (e.g. EMDR), schema therapy, ACT, and CBT. She has an interest in exploring how one’s own early life history (own experience of being parented, attachment, past trauma) can impact on the early parenting experiences and the couple relationship in new parenthood. She is also passionate about helping women and also their partners heal from birth trauma.

Amy sees her Hypnobirthing Australia birth education courses as a complement to her perinatal psychology work in helping parents prepare for a positive and empowering birth, no matter how they choose to birth. She encourages clients to use the same foundation of evidence based knowledge aligned with their instincts and values to find their own way of parenting to build confidence and competence within themselves, as well as secure attachment in the infant.

Amy is eligible to provide Clinical Psychology and Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling under Medicare via Telehealth. Private Health rebates also available. Amy is looking forward to supporting many more parents throughout their perinatal journey.
