Melinda Jackson
Clinical Psychologist
BSc., Hons. M. Psych (Clin)

Melinda is a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in working with parents and parents-to-be, from pre-conception through pregnancy and into early parenthood. She is passionate about caring for her clients’ emotional health during this time, understanding that this life stage can bring about many mixed emotions. Melinda particularly enjoys supporting women and their partners in preparing for pregnancy and childbirth, and in their adjustment to becoming parents and caring for their babies. Melinda is aware that in the past, parents used to be surrounded by a “village” to help support them during this time. As such, she places strong value on the importance of support during this exciting but sometimes overwhelming or challenging stage of life.

Melinda has been interested in the relationship between parents and their infants for many years. Her Master of Psychology thesis focused on the prenatal bond between mothers and their unborn babies, and how this was influenced by many factors, including a woman’s own experience of being parented. She has since undertaken specific training in perinatal mental health, enhancing the parent-child bond and providing support through perinatal loss.

Melinda has experience in a variety of settings, including public and private mental health, but has specialised in Perinatal psychology for the past ten years.

Melinda has an empathic, mindful and supportive approach that is tailored to the needs of each person. She draws on a combination of evidence based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment therapy and Mindfulness based techniques as well as strategies based in Psychodynamic theory and attachment theory.
