Rebecca Wheeler

Rebecca is a clinical psychologist with 20-years experience in therapy with clients and the principal psychologist of RWA Psychology – Family Matters. She has a special interest in supporting parents with their experiences of parenting – from contemplating conception, pregnancy & birth through to adjusting to both the joys and demands of parenting. Rebecca works with parents who simply need support during this period as well as those with stronger mental health difficulties such as postnatal depression and anxiety. Clients value the safe and nurturing environment she provides for them to to deepen their understanding of their emotional issues and develop the skills needed to move forward.
Assisting parents in establishing secure and resilient relationships with their children, allowing them to experience the joys of parenting while navigating the inevitable challenges it can bring is critical to how Rebecca works with her clients. Rebecca has a special interest in building parenting skills in mindful and reflective parenting. She works from an attachment based perspective with parents and children.
Rebecca has worked with many parents who have experienced loss during the pregnancy or postpartum period. Providing compassion, understanding and space to explore their grief is critical to this work as well as assisting parents to find a way to live with their loss.
Rebecca works closely with general practitioners, obstetricians and psychiatrists allowing for essential collaborative care.
Parents are welcome to bring their babies to session.

Maria Morte-Sanorjo
Psychologist – Clinical Registrar
Maria is a kind and compassionate therapist who is passionate about supporting parents throughout the perinatal period. Maria also provides counselling and support to women who have experienced pregnancy loss as well as parents who have experienced having a child born prematurely. Maria offers a warm and supportive space for her clients to work through their difficulties and cultivate a sense of resilience and vitality. She is committed to working collaboratively with her clients in order to provide targeted interventions that are in line with the client’s personal goals and values. Maria has a solid background in child development and is able to provide support to parents who experience significant parenting stress.
Maria has received training in assessment and treatment of perinatal anxiety and depression and incorporates attachment-based relational approaches to help clients work the challenges of pregnancy and early parenthood. She holds a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and is a recipient of the Dean’s Merit Award for academic excellence in her postgraduate studies. During her undergraduate studies, she was awarded first-class honours for her empirical thesis on women’s reactions to infant crying.
